Samsung Group Company History - Samsung Group is one of the world's largest electronics companies. Established on March 1, 1938 in Daegu, Korea, the company operates in 58 countries and has more than 208 000 workers. In 2003 its revenue was U.S. $ 101.7 billion.

Today, Samsung operates in six business areas, namely telecommunications (mobile phones and networks), digital household appliances (including washing machines, microwave ovens, refrigerators, VHS and DVD player, etc.), digital media, LCD, semiconductors, and motor vehicles (including heavy equipment).

Samsung (which in Korean means three stars) was founded by Lee Byungchul.

Samsung's history began in 1938 when Lee Byung-Chull (1910-1987) came from a family of land owners in the area Uiryeong come to town and set up a Samsung Sanghoe Daegu, a small trading company with forty employees, located in the Su-dong ( now Ingyo-dong).

The first product is a black and white television set. In 1980, the Company purchased Samsung Hanguk Jeonja Tongsin in Gumi, and began to build a telecommunications device. The product originally was switchboards.

This facility has evolved into a manufacturing system and a telephone and fax Samsung mobile phone manufacturing center. They have produced over 800 million phones. Their companies grouped together under Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. in the 1980s.

In the late 1980's and early 1990's, Samsung Electronics to invest in research and development, significant investment in driving the company to the forefront in the global electronics industry.

In 2006, S-LCD was established as a joint venture between Samsung and Sony in order to provide a stable supply of LCD panels to operate their factories and build the facility in Tangjung, South Korea.

Samsung Electronics surpassed Sony as one of the most popular brand in the world of consumer electronics in 2004 and 2005, and is now ranked 19th in the world as a whole.

Samsung became the second largest company by volume of the world after Nokia mobile phone manufacturers, especially the leading market share in North America and Western Europe.
